Welsh Language Standards
This portal is designed to meet the requirements of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 and the Welsh Language Standards, as they apply to the University of South Wales.
The purpose of these Standards is to ensure that Welsh is not treated less favourably than English, and that students and staff are able to engage with services in their preferred language. The University of South Wales recognises the importance of the Welsh language and is committed to providing a positive experience for Welsh speakers when using this portal.
What this means in the portal
-
Bilingual interface
All navigation menus, page headers, and key functions within the portal are available in both Welsh and English. Users can switch between languages at any time using the language toggle in the header and footer. -
Policy and information pages
Core policy pages such as Privacy, Cookies, Accessibility, Retention and Terms are available in Welsh and English. These are maintained to ensure that both languages carry equal weight and accuracy. -
Notifications and communications
System-generated notifications, such as sign-in prompts, status updates, and error messages, are displayed in both Welsh and English. This ensures that students receive consistent information regardless of language preference. -
Reports and documents
Assessment reports are displayed in the portal exactly as supplied by the OHIO system. At present, these reports are normally available in English only. The portal does not alter the content of reports but ensures they are displayed consistently within the bilingual interface. -
Accessibility and compliance
The portal is designed to meet WCAG 2.0 AA standards for accessibility. This includes support for screen readers and responsive layouts across devices, in both Welsh and English.
Commitment to continuous improvement
We are committed to maintaining and improving bilingual support in the portal. This includes:
- Regularly reviewing and updating Welsh translations to ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Monitoring user feedback to identify areas where Welsh provision can be strengthened.
- Ensuring that any new features or updates to the portal are developed with bilingual functionality from the outset.
If you encounter an area of the portal that is not available in Welsh, or if you have feedback on the quality of translations, please contact us through the Contact page.
Limitations
While the portal provides a full bilingual interface, the source content of assessment reports and related documents is supplied directly by the OHIO system. At this time, these reports are not routinely produced in Welsh. The portal will always display the report in the form it is received.
